When it all seems to go wrong!

January 15, 20252 min read

Do you find that some days nothing seems to work out for you??

And the more you feel sorry for yourself and that nothing is working out, the more you get of that same thing?

Today, I got in my brand new car (well new to me) for the first time, to find the key wasn't working and the car wouldn't unlock... and then...

🚘I did a 30 min walk to get the spare, that also wasn't working.

🚘I then changed the battery in the key and it still wasn't working.

🚘I then opened the car manually with the key blade (who knew that was a thing?), and the car wouldn't start...

Do you get the picture? The more things were not working out, the more I found faults and the more low and upset I got.

But something turned around, I asked for help, not something I do very often, are you similar to me in that respect? A wonderful local garage drove out to me (FoC) to jump start the car, and were able to fit me in immediately to replace the faulty car battery, and the original garage I bought the car from offered to pay for it!

I was able to go and have a lovely coffee and a walk with my sister and her puppy while I was waiting, and I end up with what felt like a brand new car all over again.

Sometimes, we just need to ask for a little help, have faith in the goodness in people and look for the positives. When we have thoughts that things are not going to work out, we start to see the world with that filter and we begin to only see the faults and the problems. When we change our thoughts to have a little hope, optimism and positivity, we can start to see the world with that in mind and the opportunities around us.

How we feel influences how we think, which in turn influences how we view the world and what things we focus in on. This also happens unconsciously without us even being aware. It creeps in, insidiously, without our knowledge or even wanting it sometimes.

For example, if I tell you not to see anything yellow, you will probably start to see many yellow things around you, as that seed has been planted in your unconscious.

When we say things like -

  • I am very unlucky

  • Nothing works out for me

  • Typical, of course, that was going to break for me

What do you see in the world around you?

We start to view the world through those thoughts and find evidence to support it (eg everything about my car not working), when we do something differently (in my case, ask for help), we get different responses, the script and thoughts change and we get different results.

What script are you running in your thoughts and what could you replace it with instead?
